HOW WE ROAST

Small batches, watched by hand.

Our 12-kilo drum roaster roasts one origin at a time, tuned by Dana Whitlock until the cup is sweet, never smoky.

We buy straight from the farm

Nine farms in five countries, each paid well above the going commodity price.

Sample-roast, cup, then roast

Every lot is cupped three times before we commit to a profile.

Roast to order, ship the same day

Bags are packed within an hour of cooling and stamped with the roast date.

OUR STORY

Started with a borrowed roaster and a Leeds arch.

Dana Whitlock and Ravi Menon began Ember in 2017 with a 5-kilo roaster, a rented railway arch and one Ethiopian lot they could not stop thinking about. Today the team is eleven people, still roasting in the same arch every Monday and Thursday.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Better than the cafe, which is annoying.

★★★★★

The Kochere tastes like someone dropped a peach into a jasmine tea. I have not bought supermarket coffee since March.

Roast date on the bag, a tasting card that is actually right, and it arrived Friday. We switched the whole office over.

The House Blend is the best flat white I make at home. Dana even replied to my grind question on a Sunday.
