Forge | The code editor that plans, edits and tests with you

v2.4

Multi-file plans are here

Describe the change. Review the diff.

Forge is a code editor that plans edits across your whole repo, runs your tests, and shows every change as a diff you accept or reject. Your code stays yours.

How a change flows

Three steps, and you hold the pen for every one

01 / PLAN

Say what you want

Type it in plain words. Forge reads the repo, finds the files that matter and lays out a plan you can edit before a line changes.

$ forge plan "retry failed webhooks"

6 files, 2 new tests, 1 migration

02 / EDIT

Watch it work

Edits land across files as a live diff. Stop, steer or take over at any keystroke. Nothing is written to disk until you say so.

$ forge apply --review

+84 −31 across 4 files

03 / VERIFY

Ship with proof

Forge runs your own test command and lint rules, then attaches the results to the diff. Red means it fixes itself first.

$ forge verify

14 passed · lint clean · 3.1s

Keyboard first

Never reach for the mouse

Forge is built for people who live on the keyboard. Six shortcuts cover the whole loop, and every one can be changed.

⌘ K

Ask Forge

Start a change from any file.

⌘ ↵

Accept diff

Take every hunk in one stroke.

⌘ ⇧ P

Jump anywhere

Files, symbols and commands.

esc

Reject

Throw the change away, cleanly.

⌘ ⇧ R

Rewind

Step back through every edit.

⌘ J

Run tests

Your command, in a split pane.

Every shortcut is remappable, and your VS Code keymap imports in one click.

Changelog

Shipping every other Tuesday

Forge has had 41 releases in 14 months. Every one is in the notes, with the commit behind it.

v2.4

Multi-file plans

Plans now show a dependency graph, so you see what a change touches before it runs.

v2.3

Test-aware edits

Forge reruns only the tests your diff can affect. A 2,400-test suite now verifies in 9 seconds.

Sep 16

v2.2

Rewind

Step back through every edit in a session, hunk by hunk.

Bring your own key

Use your own model provider, or run a local model on your machine.

From the people who use it

Engineers keep it open all day

I deleted 1,100 lines of retry code in an afternoon. The diff was cleaner than what I would have written, and the tests were already green.

Kofi Mensah

Staff Engineer, Relay Labs

Reviews got shorter because every change arrives with its test run attached. My team merges 30% more a week.

Lucia Ferrante

Engineering Manager, Northwind

I never type forge in a terminal anymore. Command K, one sentence, accept. It feels like pairing with someone who has read the whole repo.

Email the team

Does my code leave my machine?

Only the files a request needs are sent to the model, over TLS, and nothing is stored or used for training. Team plans add zero data retention, and local models keep everything on your laptop.

Which models does Forge use?

Pro and Team include our fastest hosted models. You can also bring your own key for any major provider, or point Forge at a local model running on your machine.

Will it work with my existing setup?

Yes. Forge imports your VS Code settings, extensions list and keymap on first launch, and it uses whatever test and lint commands your repo already has.

What happens when I reach the free limit?

Forge keeps working as an editor, and AI edits pause until the month resets. Add your own API key to carry on for free, or upgrade to Pro in two clicks.

Can I review changes before they touch disk?

Always. Every edit is shown as a diff first. Nothing is written until you accept it, and Rewind steps back through every change in a session.
